Frequently asked questions
Our products are produced responsibly in South India and China. We attach great importance to the origin of our products, therefore our founder and managing director Mustafa personally inspects the production conditions on site regularly. This way we can be sure that our company ethics are being complied with. The employed workers receive a fair wage and, of course, no children are employed in the production facilities. The health and safety management is ISO-certified. This means that the protection of personnel and compliance with legal requirements have top priority. Among other things, working and break times must be regulated. Compliance with these conditions has been certified by the manufacturers.
For our products we use only the highest quality stainless steel types AISI204cu (16.5% chrome, 2% nickel, 81.5% steel) or DIN 18/8 (18% chrome, 8% nickel, 74% steel). Of course neither lead, nor cadmium or other harmful substances are contained. The food packaged in our products therefore does not have any contact with chemicals or harmful substances.
In the German GALAB Laboratories, the material has been certified to be absolutely food safe: our products are acid-resistant and show no deviations in smell or taste. In addition, the stainless steel used is corrosion-resistant and therefore suitable for cleaning in the dishwasher. High-grade steels with at least 10.5% chrome content are regarded as stainless steels.
Thanks to the stainless steel, our products are very stable and durable. Nevertheless, they can scratch or be dented if exposed to strong impacts. However, these optical flaws have no impact on the product's functionality.
You can order lids for our bottles and insulated containers, silicone sealing rings and the separator for the Bento Flex+ in our online shop.
If you need a different spare part, please contact our customer service.
Products with a plus in the name have sealing rings made of food-safe silicone and are leak-proof. For all other products, we do not use a sealing ring. This is not a problem when transported upright, but we cannot guarantee 100% leakproofness with the standard versions. You can find an variety of the leak-proof products in our webshop.
In the boxes and bottles of ECO Brotbox both cold and hot food and drinks can be transported. However, since our standard products are made of single-walled stainless steel, these products have no insulating function, i.e. they keep the contents neither cold nor warm. Attention with hot contents – these products can also become very hot outside!
If you want to keep your drinks or food cold or hot for a longer time, we recommend our insulated bottles and containers made of double-walled stainless steel.
Note: The non-insulating Tiffin Swing+, Bento Classic+, Bento Flex+ and Yogi Box products should not be filled with hot food as this will create a vacuum which will make it difficult to open the box again. Please allow the food to cool before filling.
Stainless steel products are not allowed to be used in the microwave.
When used in the oven or on the grill, extreme caution is required as the material becomes extremely hot and there is a risk of being burned.
The containers can basically be used for freezing. However, we do not recommend it as frequent freezing can lead to material fatigue. This shortens the lifetime of the boxes. In addition, you should take care not to fill the frozen food too high so that the frozen food can spread without stretching the container. The frozen product can cause a very high pressure and deform the box significantly.
The locking clamps of our boxes are adjusted manually during production. This means that the strength of the clamps can vary from box to box. We do check the strength of the clamps before shipping, but if a clamp still is too tight or too loose, it can be easily adjusted to your needs by slightly bending it.
Here is a short video on how to do that: How to adjust clamps
By using sealing rings your box is leak proof. However, when eating very hot food, negative pressure can form which makes it much more difficult to open the box. Please let the food cool down before closing your box. For very hot food (over 70 degrees) it is advisable to remove the sealing rings – but be aware that now the box is no longer leak-proof.
Tips for opening:
- Tiffin Swing+/ Tiffin Double+/ Tiffin Pro+: we have created a video to help you.
- Shanti Box+/Tiffin Bowl+: to release the negative pressure and to remove the separator plate, please pull the tab on the sealing ring a little.
A fine crack in your box is probably a stress crack.
These can occur in rare cases if the material gets too stressed during production. Please contact our customer service and we will immediately send you a new box.
Since some boxes have changeable clamps, it can happen that they come loose and have to be mounted again. However, this can be done easily and by hand. If you lose one of these clamps, you can contact our customer support and we will be happy to send you a new one.
No, filling carbonated beverages can cause leakage of the liquid.
The handle mounting of the bottle lid allows a little bit of water to enter the inside of the lid. So it's probably not your bottle that's leaking, but just some water that's collected in the lid :) The water that has entered the lid can be easily removed by shaking it.
If your bottle is really leaking, please check if the silicone ring is placed correctly. If you still have problems, please contact our customer service directly.
Our products are dishwasher safe. For drinking bottles and straws, however, we recommend thorough cleaning with a suitable brush. The sealing rings can be washed in the dishwasher as well. However, we recommend hand rinsing for a long durability.
Water can enter the inside of the lid through the handle mounting of the bottle lid. However, the water that has collected can be easily removed by shaking.
Cleaning in the dishwasher is possible. However, our bottles have a wide opening and should be cleaned regularly with standard bottle brushes. For manual rinsing you only need warm water and a mild detergent.
The sealing ring is made of food safe silicone. Nevertheless, it may discolour after some time (e.g. due to black tea or similar drinks). This is normal and has no effect on the functionality of the sealing ring. If necessary, the sealing ring can be removed for cleaning. To remove discolouration from the bottle and the sealing ring, place it in the bottle, pour in some vinegar and hot water, allow to work in and then clean with the bottle brush and rinse thoroughly.
If some water collects in the lid after cleaning, you can shake it out easily.
We recommend that you clean the straws thoroughly immediately after use with the brush provided. If there are dried residues (e.g. from a smoothie) in your drinking straw, first soak it in rinsing water and then use the brush for thorough cleaning. Otherwise a round in the dishwasher will do.
Since the stainless steel we use is rust-free, it is only superficial flash rust. Flash rust is transferred from other rusting sources (e.g. in the dishwasher). These can be, for example, rusting screws from pots or dish baskets with damaged plastic coatings. The rust that has developed is then spread through the rinsing water in the machine and adheres to other stainless steel elements. Superficial rust stains can be easily removed with lemon juice. Allow the juice to act briefly and then rub with a dry cloth. In order to prevent rust penetration, superficial rust should be removed as quickly as possible.
