We take responsibility. For you. For us. For our planet.
Our purpose is to help reduce plastic and packaging waste with our products. Environmentally friendly and ethical work is a necessity for us – this applies to our production partners in Asia, as well as to our daily work in our Berlin office and everything connected with it.
The environment, the economy and climate change.
Nature provides us with resources, the economy consumes them and even burdens the environment with waste and pollutants. In this context, especially climate change is an issue that can no longer be ignored. The combustion of raw materials such as coal, natural gas or oil releases the greenhouse gas CO2 into the air. Its accumulation in the atmosphere leads to changes in our climate.
What we do.
In an effort to counter these effects, we need to cut emissions. Since our company was founded, we have of course been doing our best to keep our carbon footprint as little as possible. For example, we use 100% green electricity and gas, pack our parcels plastic-free, and ship them climate-neutrally. Unfortunately, we cannot (yet) avoid some emissions. Together with the Zukunftswerk - the cooperative for sustainability – we have therefore calculated our CO2 balance. The result: 75 tons of CO2, which had to be compensated.
The ECO Brotbox company is climate neutral.
To compensate for our carbon footprint, we have decided to support a certified climate protection project in Bangalore, India. As part of this project, conventional electric instantaneous water heaters used to generate hot water will be replaced by water heaters that use solar energy. Since 2019, our company and our products have been officially climate neutral.
Climate protection project in India: Hot water through solar energy
India's population, and with it its demand for energy, is rising continuously. Until now, a large part of the country's energy has been generated by coal-fired power. Unfortunately, this not only produces the electricity needed, but also many tons of harmful emissions. An environmentally friendly alternative to fossil energy sources is solar energy - due to its geographical location and many hours of sunshine, India has the best prerequisites for this.
We have therefore chosen a project that will bring valuable benefits to the environment as well as to the population. The project promotes the installation of solar thermal water heaters. Private households, public institutions such as hospitals or schools, but also small businesses can use the power of the sun for their hot water supply. In this way, money can be saved through lower expenditures on fuel, and through the reduction in emissions both health and the environment are less burdened. In addition, the project has a positive impact on the economic development of the country through the creation of secure jobs.
